The Power of Gratitude

Happy Thanksgiving message written on heart shape blackboard with turkey motif decoration.Gratitude is an attitude, no matter what. It is a choice. There is power that comes with choosing to feel grateful because it can shift your energy and bring more of what you truly want in your life. Gratitude is about giving thanks, for acknowledging all that you have, all that you feel, all that you love – both personally and professionally.

Next week is Thanksgiving.  What are you grateful for? To whom, or what, do you need to give thanks?

At this time of the year, it is a good reminder to slow down and take stock of our good fortune, successes, and all for which we are grateful; to make a focused effort to live each and every day with gratitude and appreciation; and to give back to those who have made our lives all the better.

My husband and I typically travel at this time of the year to visit with our respective families.  This year, we are excited to be hosting Thanksgiving Weekend and to have our house filled with family.  It has been a few years since our niece and nephew visited with us in Ottawa, so we plan to take them around and show them the sites and sounds of the Nation’s Capital!

All celebrations for us include fun, food, family and festivities. What special plans do you have for Thanksgiving?  Are there particular traditions that encompass your celebration and ways of demonstrating gratitude?

A tradition that I particularly enjoy is having each person sitting around my Thanksgiving dinner table acknowledge something or someone for whom he or she is grateful.  Not only is this fun, but it is incredibly powerful and inspirational to have family and friends together to share this experience.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to share 12 things for which I am grateful:

  • good health
  • the unconditional support and love of my husband and family
  • loyal and generous friends
  • colleagues who embrace what I do and help me shine
  • partnerships with the most brilliant and creative minds I know and the honour to work with such individuals
  • kind and appreciative clients
  • opportunity
  • choice
  • the ability to lead the life I desire
  • a community that I embrace
  • the ability to share my gifts through volunteering and helping others
  • continuous growth and development in all that I do.

I am also grateful to have the platform to share the things and people for whom I am grateful.  I hope you will take the time to share yours during your Thanksgiving celebration this weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
