Happy International Women’s Day!

March 07, 2017  |     |   0 Comment

March 8th marks International Women’s Day. This day arose around the turn of the 20th century out of a long standing movement for women to participate equally in society. It is a day that has grown to become a global day of recognition and celebration.

I’m excited to be spending International Women’s Day at the Women in Business Conference 2017 to learn from inspiring female speakers and mingle with the most amazing business women.  Next week, I have the honour to present at an event hosted by the Women’s Business Network of Ottawa where I will share my story of how having “a feminine advantage” has contributed my success both personally and professionally and address the ways in which I have benefited from having strong women in leadership support and help me to ultimately live my best life and be my best self.

I believe that this feminine advantage is truly our gift that we can share with other women in business to support and help them in achieving their professional goals. International Women’s Day is a day that is near and dear to my heart, for it was the bravery and tenacity of women from the past that has paved the way to the advantages I have today.  But there is far more work to be done, and this day provides an opportunity for women and men to take stock of our progress towards gender equality and to honour the contributions women have made, are making and will continue to make — both in Canada and around the world.

In  Canada, the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “Equality Matters.”  The Status of Women Canada is urging all of us to support women on March 8th by making a commitment to gender equality and share it on social media using the hashtag #EqualityMatters and tell them why equality matters to you and inspire your friends to do the same.  What stereotypes would you like to see broken?  Tag the people in your life who inspire you to work for gender equality.
