How to Properly Respond to an Introduction Have you ever been in a situation where a person has introduced herself or himself to you, and within seconds you forget their name?  You are not alone!  There is a way to respond to an introduction that will instantly open doors to creating a positive connection with another person - and that is to listen. Quite often when we meet a new person, we worry more about what we will talk about with them in conversation rather then being truly present during the introduction phase. An appropriate response to an introduction requires listening.  Slow down, listen carefully, and pay attention when you meet a new person. When a person has introduced herself or himself  to you, it is important that you reply in a professional and friendly manner by first saying “hello” or “good morning/afternoon/evening.”  Simply saying “hi” sounds too immature in the business arena, but “hello” is never enough. How to Properly Introduce Yourself Are you comfortable introducing yourself, or do you wait for the other person to make the first move?  Introducing yourself is how you make yourself known to others. Each time you introduce yourself, you are sharing who you are, being up front, and taking the initiative.  These are all pluses in any business or social situation.  It’s your duty to introduce yourself, whether you are attending a small or large gathering.  If you wait for someone else to make the first move, you just might be waiting for a very long time! A proper introduction includes your first and last name, and something about yourself.  For example, if you are attending a networking event, you would introduce yourself to a new person in the following manner:  “Good Morning.  My name is Jane Smith.
